Home Is...

It's a mild day where I live. Things are melting and spring is in the air! All the ice and snow we got earlier this week is almost gone - whoo hoo!

To avoid the mud for awhile I have retreated to my craft room to make a card a challenge.

My card features Horse Love, by Crissy Armstrong and it is available at Whimsy Stamps. I coloured my image with alcohol markers and cut it out with a Spellbinders Label Die. I left the cut out in the die and traced the edge with a marker to create the frame around the image.
I added a banner piece to the top right corner, a flourish stamp and some patterned paper cut with fish tail banner dies. The sentiment was created on my computer, a couple of flowers were added and some gumdrops finish off my card.

Card Recipe
Stamp: Horse Love (Crissy Armstrong) - Whimsy Stamps
Flourish Stamp: Whirly Gigs - Technique Tuesday
Love Me Some Latte Gumdrops - Your Next Stamp

For me, there is nothing like coming home after a tough day to the smiling face of my dog - I mean who else is that happy to see you every day!?

Glossy accents were added to the tag and the frame is from Spellbinders. Happy Spring Frogs

I can't believe it's the last Thursday in February already! Whoo Hoo for Spring being just around the corner!

My post today features Froggy Stack. These frogs just exude happiness don't they?!? Although the one in the middle is just a wee bit squished!

I started by colouring my stamp with alcohol markers and then you guessed it - fussy cut it out. I restamped the flower numerous times to create my bouquet on the right and used a Spectrum Sparkle pen to add some glitter. The frogs are put on using pop dots. I added some grass, a fence and some flower filled clouds. The card is finished off with a stamped sentiment and my favourite - gumdrops!

                             Happy Thursday High Hopes fans!

My post today features Bumble Bear. How cute is he with his big flower and heart on his chest!

I decided to get in touch with my CAS (Clean and Simple) side with this card - a definite challenge for me!

Sparkly Wings Close Up

I started by colouring my bear with alcohol markers, adding sparkle to his wings and fussy cutting him out. Next, I figured out the size my piece of white cardstock had to be and stamped a flower splatter with some pink ink to match. I created my sentiment on my computer and doodled the frame around the edge. CAS is a challenge for me but I am happy with how this one turned out.

Udderly Amazing

Welcome back OCS fans! It's Thursday and my turn to post some inspiration for you. It's also one day closer to Fri-YAY!!

Today I am sharing a stamp from High Hopes called Taking A Break. I think this cow would bring a smile to anyone's face! There are some times when someone has done something overly kind or when someone has reached a milestone in their lives that it is nice to send a card to acknowledge it which is where the theme for this card came from.

                                                         Donna

I coloured my stamp with alchohol markers and fussy cut it. I created my scene by cutting some green hills, blue sky and some fence. I added some pop dots to the cow and put my scene together. I edged all of the paper pieces and card edge with Memento London Fog ink.  The sentiment was created on my computer. Some twine and black gumdrops finish off my card.

My Caffeine

I have a confession......I LOVE coffee! I honestly can't start my day without one..or two..or .......well, you get the idea.

When I saw this set from Your Next Stamp, I knew I had to have it. It summed up pretty much how I feel about my coffee.

I was getting in touch with my CAS (Clean and Simple) side today. It is very cold where I live, our high today was -20 with a feels like temperature into the minus 30's. A perfect day to hide in my craft room don't you think?

I coloured my stamp with alcohol markers and cut it out using the matching die that can be purchased for this set. I used a mini heart splatter stamp to add some hearts, added some patterned paper and some gumdrops to finish off my card. The sentiment is part of the stamp set as well.

Card Recipe
Stamps: Coffee Right Meow and Mini Heart Splatter- Your Next Stamp
Patterned Paper: Sunny Days Ahead - Echo Park
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Pretty In Pink - Stampin' Up

Glow Bugs

We have had an extremely mild, snowless winter this year compared to "normal" which puts me in the mood for spring and summer and all things warm and bright!

Today I am using Jenny's Glow Bugs  from High Hopes Stamps. She is just too cute and has put alot of hard work into catching these bugs!

                                                      Donna

I started by colouring my image with alcohol markers and using a stitched oval die to cut it out. I chose some bright fun spring paper from Little Yellow Bicycle, and you can't see it in the photo but the flower, bow and bug wings have some clear Wink of Stella added to them. The oval is edged with antique linen distress ink, some brads, ribbon and a dragon fly charm finish off my card. I also added a flower border for some added texture. A sentiment will be included on the inside when I have an event I need the card for.

Go Ahead......

 Happy Thursday OCS fans!

My younger brother was a volunteer firefighter for years and although he doesn't do it at the moment, I still think of him every time I see anything with a firefighter on it.

My post for this week features an older High Hopes stamp called Firefighter Dragon. I have a mini Minc and I know you can use die cuts and run them through to add foil but I wanted to see if you could do the same with something run through an embossing folder....I will share my thoughts/experiences  on that later in the post.

For now, let me introduce you to Firefighter Dragon!

                                                         Donna

Inside

Side View

Firefighter Dragon is coloured with alcohol markers and I used a stitched rectangle die to cut out around him. I used some holographic foil on a diamond plate embossing folder, some paper from Authentic and finished off my card with some black gumdrops. The sentiments on the front and inside are from High Hopes as well. The card pattern is from an old issue of Card Maker.

I mentioned at the beginning of my post I would share some thoughts on using an embossed image in the mini Minc to add foil.

I used Heidi Swapp toner paper to put in the embossing folder and it did crack in a few spots as it is quite thin but the foil covered them completely. The foil didn't adhere 100% around the raised "diamonds" - it leaves a slight black outline but for this card, I wanted a more masculine, distressed feel so I was okay with that. The foil on the rest of the paper stuck beautifully.

Running the toner paper through an embossing folder does make it very weak so I broke a few photo corners before getting them on the card.
So I have come to the conclusion for a rugged, distressed feel to a foiled piece for a card absolutely I would do it again but for something more elegant not necessarily, but I had to try it. I think I will try it again but this time I will try putting the folder through on a lighter pressure so the raised portions aren't as high and see what happens...........stay tuned.........

Smiles For You

My best friend has been in the hospital recovering from surgery for just over a week. She loves penguins so in between visits I have been working on her card.

I knew I wanted to use penguins but I wasn't sure about a layout. On Friday, Your Next Stamp started a new sketch and colour challenge and the sketch fit perfectly with the idea I had in mind for my Get Well Card.

I love to have some bling or glitter on my cards. It is very hard to see in the picture but the hearts on the penguins stomachs and the tips on the umbrellas have Clear Wink of Stella on them so they are very glittery.

Hedgy Smile

Happy Thursday High Hopes fans! It is the first Thursday in February and my turn to post some inspiration for you.

My post today features Hedgy in Tulip, an older High Hopes Stamp.

                                                      Donna

Sparkly Close Up

I started by colouring my image with alcohol markers and using a stitched rectangle die to cut it out. I cut out a piece of red cardstock a little longer then my image and using a stitched scalloped die to cut out the bottom edge. My "cloudy" effect for the background was done by using the chisel end of my marker by colouring in circles. When you move fairly quickly it leaves the light colour and when you move a little more slowly it leaves the darker colour - I really like the effect. After temporarily placing my image where I wanted it to go, I stamped my flourishes on the edge and added the flower - after gluing down my image. A die cut word Smile and some gumdrops finished off my card.

Snowbird Birthday

Welcome back OCS fans! It's the first Thursday in February and yes, it's still winter...sigh........

Today I am sharing a card I made for my mother in laws 80th birthday. I think L'il Snowbird from High Hopes Stamps is the perfect image when you need something with a winter theme for life events after Christmas.

                                                         Donna

I chose to use some "brighter" colours to help beat some of the winter blues.  Some glitter gumdrops add some sparkle along with some bright pink paper from Doodlebug.  "Snow" embossing powder adds some texture and colour as well.
