You Know You're Old When......

One of my Dad's favourite sayings is "My memory is good...it's just short!". As kids growing up we thought it was funny and it always made us giggle. However, as I am getting older, I am finding more and more truth in that statement and I find myself saying it quite often!

When I saw the "Memory" sentiment and "Online Olive" stamps from High Hopes Rubber Stamps it reminded me of this saying and how true it is the older I get. I find myself having to make lists either on paper, my phone, or computer to try not to forget things....until I forget which way I wrote the note and where...<smile>. I chose to use this stamp combo for a humourous Birthday card because I can't have enough humourous cards in my stash.

I stamped Olive, coloured her and her cat friend with Copic markers and cut her out using a square pleated lace die. I chose patterned paper from Carta Bella and cut it to fit my 5.5"x5.5" card base. Bazzill came through with the perfect matching card stock and I cut a layer to fit behind each piece of patterned paper and the stamp.
Next, I stamped the Memory sentiment and masked off the Happy Birthday from the Swinging Birthday sentiment. They were cut to size and mounted on matching card stock. Some cotton lace ribbon and enamel dots finish off my card.

Get Well Puppy

I don't know about anyone else but sometimes my creativity train seems to leave the station and not come back for awhile. When this happens to me I try a number of different things to try and find the train.

Sometimes I reorganize my craft space, or walk away and do a household chore and sometimes I find a crafty challenge that is something I don't usually do on my cards. Most of the cards I make are square and I try to add layers and embellishments of some kind. Today, I found a CAS (clean and simple) challenge to participate in and I challenged myself to make an A2 size card using "Sick Puppy" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps that was sitting coloured on my desk.

After stamping this cutie and colouring him with Copic markers I cut him out using an edge die. I cut a second one out of card stock to put behind my stamp to create a thin edge. I had a piece of trimmed off plaid that fit my design and colour combo perfectly and added it behind the stamp. A stamped sentiment and enamel dots finish off this CAS style card.

Card Recipe

Stamp: Sick Puppy - High Hopes Rubber Stamps

Sentiments: Get Well Soon 2 - High Hopes Rubber Stamps

Have I Toad You?

I grew up with two brothers and it was their favourite thing to try to find toads, frogs or some kind of bug that they thought would scare me and chase me around with it. I also have a number of nephews and a few friends with little boys who like to bring me "gifts" that squirm and giggle. Of course I make a big deal out of it  eeking and ewwwing which the of course they find totally hilarious! I love hearing those giggles!!!!

"Froggy Gift" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps brings these memories flooding back and has me smiling all over again. I can't wait to use this stamp again for some masculine Birthday cards or a non traditional Mother's Day card.

After stamping this cutie and colouring it with Copic markers, I cut it out using a rectangle die and at the same time cut a piece of card stock to go behind it. Plaid paper from Your Next Stamp and a matching grunge patterned paper from Craft Consortium worked perfectly for this colour combo. Next I stamped the sentiment and cut it out with a fish tail banner die. It is popped up with foam pop dots on the bottom so it sits flat against the twine. I added a few bull rush die cuts and added some twine and enamel dots to finish off my card.

Hashtag Besties

I love when I see a stamp and it is perfect for someone special in my life. My bestie and I have been friends since we were in grade school and she is the Thelma to my Louise, the peanut butter to my jam and the chocolate to my caramel. She has had some serious health issues over the last few years but she is a fighter and truly my hero.

Covid has kept us apart lately but I HAD to have this stamp and colour it up for her. I hope it made her smile.......and remember some of the schenanigans we have been through over the years <smile>

I stamped this fun pair and coloured it with Copic and Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. It is hand fussy cut leaving a thin white edge so is doesn't get lost on the background. The glasses have some glossy accents added to them.  I set that aside and cut out a licence plate die in matching colours and added the die cut letters. I used the "I" from my font set to make the hashtag - didn't quite work out the way I pictured but I went with it. All of this was added to patterned paper from the MFT and a piece of white card stock with a scallop edge made using a die cut. I added antique linen distress ink to all of the paper edges. Enamel dots finish off my card.

You Quack Me Up!

Anyone else ever see a stamp that just makes them giggle?? Silly Goose from High Hopes Rubber Stamps sent me in to many giggle fits as I was trying to colour her. I actually had to restart colouring three times because she made me giggle so hard I coloured out of the lines...and a blender couldn't fix it.

I'm not sure why this stamp does this for me but I hope that it also makes the recipients smile and maybe giggle just a little like I did.

I stamped Silly Goose and coloured her with Copic markers. For the first card I cut her out using a stitched tag die and for the second card I used a rounded square with pierce marks die.

I couldn't decide which sentiment I wanted to use for my card so I decided to make two cards. I kept the design fairly simple for both of them. For the 5"x 5" tag card I added it to some spring paper from Lawn Fawn and cut a stitched scallop edge to match the tag and added some ribbon, a glittery flower and some matte dots.

The second card is an A2 size using plaid paper from Lawn Fawn, some ribbon and enamel dots. The sentiment is part of a larger sentiment that I a masked off and added the question mark to with a black marker. The stamped image is popped up using 3D foam pop dots and I inked all the edges with antique linen Distress Ink.

Simply De-Vine!

I don't usually make a lot of cards for Valentine's Day but when I saw the "Simply De-Vine!" sentiment from High Hopes Rubber Stamps I decided to challenge myself to find a way to use this sentiment for a non-traditional Valentine.
I decided "Mike On A Vine" and the "Branch" also from High Hopes, went together perfectly with the sentiment and fit my non-traditional theme.
Mike is adorable and could be used for a number of different card themes.

After stamping Mike and the branch Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I coloured them with Copic markers. I hand fussy cut them - I actually broke my scissors! - and ran a black marker around the edge to get any white I had missed.
After setting them aside, I got my baby blue ink, dauber and cloud die and formed my cloud background.
I cut a piece of white card stock to size and used a circle die to cut the space for the clouds. Thankful for my Misti as I placed and stamped the sentiment directly on to the card. After cutting the cloud paper to fit the circle I glued Mike and the branch down and added some enamel dots to finish off my card.

Gopher Nurse

I don't know about you but when I am not feeling well I have a favourite blanket I like to snuggle in under and although I drink coffee I set it aside for a cup of tea. The blanket is one my mom made for me and I think it is the extra love in the stitches that always helps me feel better.

I tried to get the feeling of being wrapped in a blanket with the patterned paper on my card and the oh so adorable "Gopher Tea Nurse" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps and her tea cup reminded me of the tea. This stamp (along with some of her other adorable friends - you can see them here) has been brought out the High Hopes Retirement Vault to help bring smiles and get well wishes.

After stamping and colouring the stamp with Copic markers I hand fussy cut her. I decided on the 4"x5" card base and chose some flowered patterned paper from Kaisercraft that reminded me of the quilts we used to wrap ourselves in when we sick as kids. The card design is based loosely on some cards I saw a long time ago when I was googling sketches that stuck with me.

I cut the paper and then used a scalloped edger die to create the "blanket" edges.  They are over lapped slightly under the stamp. Next I added a piece of water color paper from MFT behind it. Using a circle die I cut a circle and added some stitches to it with a stitch die and cut a matching piece of the flowered paper for the inside. Next I glued down the stamped image and added some ribbon to finish off my card.
