Happy New Year

Today we find Bob and his wife enjoying a romantic moment before heading out to a New Year's Eve party. Bob's wife is dressed in her finest sparkly red dress and Bob is looking like his usual super cool self in his vest and blue jeans! He's such a romantic isn't he?!

Close Up

I have to tell you a secret - Santa came to my house early.....and brought me a new Heidi Swapp Mini Minc! It is so fun to use but it is very difficult to get a good picture when you use foil on a card. I took the picture on the side so you could see the gold on the paper.

After colouring my image with alcohol markers, I cut it out with a stitched oval die and inked the edge with black ink to help it stand out. I ran some Heidi Swapp 5th Avenue paper through my mini Minc to add the gold foil. I did the same with my "happy" word die. I had a few spots on the word die where the foil didn't adhere properly but I used it anyway - I kind of like the "distressed" look it gives.

I found some white paper with a light black pattern on it to add my sentiment to along with the die cut letters to spell New Year.

I added some glitter to Bob's wife's necklace and earrings to make them look like diamonds, added some gold Stickles to the flower centres and glossy accents to Bob's glasses. Although it is very difficult to see, I added clear Wink of Stella to Bob's wife's dress.  I finished the card off with a few black gumdrops...no surprise! lol. I like my glitter and gumdrops!

Horse Thank You

We had a pretty good blast of winter last night - a little snow but mostly freezing rain and ice pellets.

That makes it the perfect day to escape to my craft room and make something that's not a Christmas card!

How cute is Jessica with her horse!?!

I love the simple layout to this sketch - I feel it keeps the focus on the stamp.
After colouring with alcohol markers, I chose to use some paisley and barn board papers to keep kind of a western/country feel to my card and each layer is trimmed in dark brown. I used a light blue chalk pencil smudged with paper towel to soften it around the outside edge and finished it off with my favourite - gumdrops!

Christmas Eve Happy Mail

Happy Christmas Eve!

I have one more Christmas card to share with you today. It's always nice to have a few extra on hand for those last minute invites over the Christmas season.

My card features Happy Mail from the newest Joys of the Seasons release. Don't tell but I made another one for my god daughter who absolutely loves hedge hogs. This is the fun part of making cards - being able to find the perfect stamp for the special people in your life!

Side View

After colouring the image with alcohol markers I cut it out with a circle die and then ran it through again with a pierced circle die.

I formed my card base and held my breath. It made me nervous to cut the middle of the card front out but I had used a regular piece of printer paper to plan the layout out first so away I went.

After cutting out the middle, I cut a piece of plastic packaging a little larger then the piece I cut out of the cardstock in the middle. (I didn't have a piece of acetate that I felt would be thick enough to use). I added some snowflake cellophane paper - the kind you would wrap a gift basket with - and added to the card front.

I added some "Snow" from Stampendous, patterned paper from "Sugar Plum" (Doodlebug) a bow and my favourite - yes I'm addicted - Gumdrops.

Grandma's Christmas Card

A couple weeks ago I shared that I have a couple of standing orders from my mom for Christmas cards.

The first card I shared was one I made for her to give to her dear friend. Today I am sharing the second card I made for her for my Grandmother, her mom, who is in her 90's.

I had to keep the layout simple as Grandma is losing her eyesight so it had to be coloured in somewhat bright colours and have not too much going on with papers and such. I hope I made it in a way she can see and enjoy it.

Card Recipe
Stamp: Oh Holy Night Nativity Set - KKS
Sentiment: Scandi Christmas - Whimsy Stamps
Stitched Rectangles Die: Your Next Stamp
Holly Berry Red Gumdrops - Your Next Stamp

We are actually getting alot of snow here today so it kinda helps put me in the Christmas spirit. It won't last as temps are supposed to go into the double digits next week again but hey, we'll go with it. Maybe I'll go out and build a snowman.....

Happy crafting friends!

Holly Jolly Christmas

My post today introduces you to Candy Cane Snowman. The latest new release Joys of the Seasons is packed full of super cute snowmen! If you love snowmen or if people in your life love snowmen ( I have alot who do!) then this is the release for you!

I started this card by colouring my image with alcohol markers, fussy cutging it and popping it up with pop dots. I layered patterned paper from Carta Bella and Simple Stories onto my cardstock. It is very hard to see in the picture but I added Clear Wink of Stella to the buckle on his hat and the frame. A polaroid die was the perfect place to add my sentiment - Sm. Christmas Script (051)  (found here)
I finished it off by adding some ribbon from my stash of my favourite - gumdrops!!

Snowman Shaker Card - Art Impressions

A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of having a "play date" at my friend Cheri's house. After meeting her three adorable dogs, we moved upstairs into her beautiful craft room.

I had brought a ton of things to work on but when she brought out this Snowman shaker set for Art Impressions, I knew immediately I was looking at the perfect Christmas cards for my nephews. I just had to stamp a few!

My two youngest nephews live in Calgary so I won't be with them Christmas morning when they open these but I can hear them giggling now!

I could actually hear them giggling as I worked on these cards - okay one will be giggling and the other one will be shaking his head saying "Oh Auntie Donna"...

These fun "bums" are on a Wobbler so every time the card is moved the bells will ring - so fun!!!!

I started by colouring the snowmen with alcohol markers and fussy cutting them. They are popped up with pop dots. I glued my bells onto the shaker portion and mounted it on a Wobbler. I cut a banner die and punched a snowflake in the middle. Labels behind my image add some pattern and colour and draw a attention to the snowman. All papers are edged with antique linen distress ink. Some silver and gold glitter gumdrops finish off my cards.

Angel Trio

Christmas is only a couple weeks away - YIKES!! I have a couple standing orders for Christmas cards every year. My mom always asks me to make a card for one of her dear, dear lifelong friends.

Her friend loves angels so when I saw the Angel Trio  stamp, I knew it would be perfect for this year's card - I hope!

This is a more simple layout then I usually do, but my mom's friend likes things neat and simple. It was a challenge for me but I love to push the boundaries of creativity sometimes.

I stamped my image and coloured it with alcohol markers, and added  some gold Stickles to each of the angel gowns. It is hard to see in the picture but their wings all have some Clear Wink of Stella on them as well.

Then I gave myself another challenge - to use scraps of paper, you know those little pieces you have left over from making cards - not big enough to use for anything major but "could be used" for something? I grabbed some of my little bits from the Mistletoe Collection by Bo Bunny and used my fishtail banner dies to make the little ribbon pieces to add under the image.

After cutting a piece of white cardstock, I ran it through my Big Kick with an embossing folder to add some texture to the background. I pre tested my sentiment stamp before I stamped it since the background is raised, found a way to make it work and voila! My card is finished off with some gold glitter gumdrops.

Card Recipe:
Clear Wink of Stella
Gold Stickles
Embossing Folder: Baby's Breath - Cuttlebug
Patterned Paper: Mistletoe Collection - Bo Bunny
Sentiment: Studio G

Snowman Snowball

Wow! I can't believe it is December already!

We had some snow a couple weeks ago where I live but some double digit temperatures melted it the following week. There snow was perfect for building a snowman - you know, the wet, heavy kind. A few children in my neighbourhood decided to do just that.......and unknowingly inspired me!

I coloured the stamp with alcohol markers and along with a few "extras" while I was at it. I mounted my image on cardstock and fussy cut my "extras".

I went with some none traditional Christmas colours on this card which ended up being perfect for the new Stampendous "Snow" I used for the corners and under the snowball. This is a great new product that you don't need extra ink for - you place it and heat it! How easy is that! It has pink, blue and yellow flecks in it - perfect for the colours I chose. Gotta love when a road trip to One Crazy Stamper gives you the perfect product to finish a card with!

After adding my "snow", I stamped my sentiment, matted it and added my two "extras". I added a fence and a bingo card to finish it off.

Card Recipe
Stamp: Snowman Snowball - High Hopes Rubber Stamps
Sentiment: Christmas Script - High Hopes Rubber Stamps
Patterned Paper: December Documented - Simple Stories, The Paper Studio, Sugar Plums - Doodlebug Designs

Carrots and Cookies

How cute is this reindeer and Santa sitting with his feet up! He must be taking a break before his big day!

My original layout and ideas for this card didn't work out the way I pictured it in my head - have you ever had that happen?) so I ended up fussy cutting the image (leaving a bit of a white border) after colouring with alcohol markers.
The "snow" was made by tearing some white pieces of cardstock and adding Stickles to the edges. I created my sentiment on my computer and printed it off on a label die that I cut in half. An icicle border, red gumdrops and glitter on Santa's coat and hat finish off my card. Did you see the red glitter gumdrop on the reindeer's nose? The sentiment was created on my computer.

In Memoriam/Sympathy

Creating a sympathy card is challenging for most of us. Add to that the card is a sympathy card but not really, for someone you don't know.

This card is a request for a horse group I (newly) belong to for a woman who's father recently passed away. This is a photo she shared on FB and I was asked to do a card including the photo.

This card will be given on behalf of the group, but they didn't want it to be a "regular" sympathy card - not flowery, or butterflies - the first choice I would normally have for a sympathy card.........

Here's what I came up with - I hope they like it.

Card Recipe
Patterned Paper: Recollections
Heart: Finishing Touches
Ink: Garden Green - Stampin' Up
Dies: Label - Spellbinders, Instalove Polaroid - YNS, Large Leafy Flourish - Whimsy Stamps

Got Hugs?

Both of my cards feature Polar Hug from the Joys of the Seasons New Release.

The first card features the new Think Snow 2 sentiment and Winter Wonderland Background and the Winter Wonderland sentiment.

The second card features the Merry Christmas sentiment. I had fun putting these two cards together with all of these High Hopes stamps!

For my first card is coloured my image with alcohol markers, fussy cut it and popped it up with pop dots. I stamped the top part only of the Winter Wonderland Background set and added some Shabby Blue Frantage. I stamped some mountains in blue so they looked like some icebergs in the background. The sentiment was partially done on my computer and finished off with the Winter Wonderland sentiment stamp. I added some glitter to the penguin's hat, some navy polka dot ribbon and finished it off with a couple blue brads.

My second card is coloured with alcohol markers and cut out using a Spellbinders circle. I added some stitches with a circle stitch die. I threaded some twine through my ribbon slot border and added my snowflake clothes pin.
Glitter on the penguins hat and some gumdrops help finish this card off.

Card Recipe
Patterned Paper: Powder Mountain - Bo Bunny, Fresh Snow - Reminisce, Mistletoe Collection - Bo Bunny

Burst Through Snowman

My post today is showcasing Snowman Sled Ride and the Think Snow 2 sentiment from the newest release Joys of the Seasons.

I wanted my snowman to look like it was bursting out of the front of the card.

I coloured my stamp with alcohol markers and fussy cut my image.

I could have boughten a die to create the "bursting through" part of my design, but I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could figure out how to do it with what I had on hand...and voila!

(I have made a photo tutorial on how I created my "burst through" you can find here on my blog.)

After finishing my "burst through", I added my stamp to a wobbler with some pop up dots so my snowman wiggles and wobbles every time the card is moved. I stamped my sentiment on a die cut label and secured it on my card with twine. Decorative corners and a few sparkly blue enamel dots and some glitter on the scarf finish off my card.

"Burst Through" Tutorial

Thank you for taking a look at my first photo tutorial. I am calling this the "Burst Through" technique.

1. Choose your shape - it can be a circle, oval, square - whatever you like.

2. Choose your paper.

There are a couple different options here. You can choose a single sheet of double sided patterned paper, or you can choose to use two different patterns. If you do the second one, your bursts will be a little thicker because you are using two layers of paper.
Helpful hint: Make sure your second piece has the pattern you want facing out. Glue the papers together - cover the whole piece not just the edges - if you don't the "burst" shapes won't stick together.

3. Trace your shape.

4. Find the centre of your shape - vertically and horizontally. In this example my circle is 3.5"w, so my center point is 1.75". Draw your centre lines from one edge of your shape to the other.

5. Find the centre of each "pie piece" In this case each piece is 2" wide so my centre point is 1". Draw your lines from one side of your shape to the other.

6. Cut your lines using your favourite cutting tool. I use an Exacto knife for this step. I also stole a metal ruler from my husbands tool box for this exact thing.

7. Use a smooth pen in whatever thickness you choose. Roll each "pie piece" to the edge of your shape. Glue each "roll" down - this part can take some patience until it dries enough to stay. Helpful Hint: if there are any pencil lines showing, erase them before gluing your pie piece down.

8. Add your background layer - I used turquoise cardstock here just for example purposes.

9. Add your stamp to the front and enjoy!

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial. Please share your projects with me - I would love to see what you create!

Naughty or Nice?

Today my post features Winking Snowman, one of the super cute snowmen from the Joys of the Season new release at High Hopes.

I just think this snowman is way too cute! I wanted to use a fun sentiment because of the wink. After colouring this cutie with alcohol markers,I chose  some pieces of turquoise and white cardstock.
I cut the white piece to size and ran it through a snowflake embossing folder. I chose to use the "negative" side of the paper so the snowflakes are indented instead of raised - that's the "naughty" part of my card
I added some patterned paper to the outside edge, and created and printed the sentiment from my computer. Some punched out snowflakes and some glittery enamel dots finish off the card.

Fall Fun!

This stamp brought back so many fun memories! When we were kids we had to rake the leaves.....of course we moaned and complained but we kept it fun by making a big pile and jumping in them! I will also admit that I loved doing this with my nieces and nephews as well. After all, if you have to do chores, you might as well try to make them fun right!?

Let me introduce you to an older High Hopes stamp called Fall Joy. How fun is this stamp!?!

I chose to keep the layout simple on this card because I wanted the stamp to be the focus. I coloured the leaves, trees and raccoons with alcohol makers and added the sky with a blue chalk pencil. I mounted the image onto some card stock and then on top of a cut in half polaroid die cut. The sentiment is some rub on letters that I have had in my possession for a very long time! I added a metal heart and some fun orange twine and a couple stitches just for fun!

Patterned Paper: Autumn Splendor - We R Memory Keepers
