Happy Birthday Bluebird

On Sunday the weather was cold, rainy and grey so I headed to my craft room for some colouring. I wanted to colour something that made me smile and brightened my day. I went through some images I had stamped and keep in a future colouring folder and found "Bluebird" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps. A perfect stamp to colour on a dreary day and make a card to add to my birthday card stash.

I coloured this cute bird with Copic markers after stamping on alcohol marker friendly paper. When the colouring was done, I cut it out with a rectangle die. Then, I took a circle die, put over top of the space I wanted it to surround and traced the inside of the die with a pencil. Next, I grabbed my exacto knife and fussy cut around everything on the inside of the circle. Yes I questioned my sanity after starting but at that point I was committed.
After the cutting was done, I found some patterned paper from Echo Park and my stash that were perfect for my 5.5" x 5.5" card design. The frame around the edge of the stamped image was created by taking two larger rectangle dies, laying them inside each other, taping them down and running them through my die cut machine.  The sentiment is from a larger stamp that I masked off to get the part of the sentiment I wanted and ribbon and enamel dots finish off my card.

Bear Birthday

July is a big Birthday month for me. Most of my immediate family has a Birthday in July and most of them are men and young me that I need cards for. My Dad's Birthday is one of them and he used to always tell us when we were kids he is going to move us up into the bush so we can live off the land.......so I thought the Bear and Mountains stamps from High Hopes were perfect for his Birthday card.

I stamped the bear and mountains on alcohol marker friendly paper, coloured them with Copic markers and hand fussy cut them. I set them aside and found some patterned paper from Honey Bee Stamps for the sky and cut it to fit my 5.5" x 5.5" card base.
Next, I got some green cardstock and cut out some grass and trees to create my scene. I glued them all down and added a piece of light blue card stock for the water. I added the bear and mountain stamps, twine, and the sentiment and finished it off with enamel dots.

Puppy Birthday

I have a lot of dog lovers on my birthday card giving list and a lot of them have birthdays coming up over the next few months so I was super excited when "Mr. Moe" was released from the High Hopes Retirement vault! He is one of my favourite stamps - maybe because he reminds me of my dog <wink> - and perfect for a dog lovers birthday card.

After stamping on alcohol marker friendly paper, I coloured with Copic markers and hand fussy cut leaving a thin white edge. Honey Bee stamps had the perfect patterned paper for this cutie so I cut the papers to fit my A2 card base and added a grass die cut to complete my scene. I masked the sentiment off a longer sentiment, stamped it, mounted it on matching card stock and added it to the top of the card. Some colored clear dots finish off my card.

Pawsing To Say

When we moved in to our house we had a neighbour up the street who used to feed the birds. Every summer he would put up a plank that was on a tree at one end and had legs to support the other end. There were multiple bird feeders and multiple different species of birds that came to visit each day. The most comical thing to watch was the squirrels who used it not only as a buffet but as a jungle gym - so funny to watch them run around and chase each other and some even fell off.

We also had a lot of stray cats in the neighbourhood and there was always one or two that I watched climb up to inspect what the plank had to offer. The cats would often play like the squirrels and all I could do was laugh.

When I saw the "Kitty By Birdhouses" stamp from High Hopes Rubber Stamps, all these fun memories came flooding back and I decided this stamp is perfect for a birthday card for one of my feline loving friends.

I started my card by stamping on alcohol marker friendly paper, colouring it with Copic markers and hand fussy cutting it leaving a thin white edge. To create my card base, I cut some striped and flowered patterned papers from Lawn Fawn and added them to matching card stock. After cutting a circle out of the blue paper, I masked off the sentiment, "coaxed" into an arch, stamped it on the edge of the circle and then put the circle on matching card stock.
I added a small piece of striped paper on top of the flowered paper, glued down the circle and tucked the birthday sentiment up against it after I cut off the bottom of the circle. I glued down the stamp, added a bow and flower and finished off the card with enamel dots.

Birthday Willow

This year I have given myself a challenge. Okay, full disclosure - I give myself this challenge every year and I have yet to meet the challenge but I am determined this is the year! I never seem to have enough birthday cards in my stash for the family and friends I need them for so I have challenged myself to make at least one birthday card a month. We are almost at the end of January and I haven't made one yet so I am sharing a clean and simple (CAS) birthday card featuring "Willow" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps.

After colouring Willow with Copic markers, I hand fussy cut her leaving a thin white edge and set her aside. Next, I gathered the items I would need to create the background for my clean and simple card.
I cut a white piece of card stock to fit my 5.5" x 5.5" card base, took a circle die, centered it and taped it down with removable post it tape. Then I pulled out some Distress inks (listed below) and some die cut clouds. I taped the clouds in place with a removable tape and then ink blended the sky and grass.
Next, I masked off the part of the sentiment I didn't want to stamp and stamped the sentiment directly on the card base. I always hold my breath when I do this!
To finish off the card I glued down the stamp.

Stitched With Love

I have a few friends and a ton of family who love quilting. I did a little bit of the stitching by hand when I was growing up but I haven't tried the cutting and piecing that goes into making the quilt top. My Grandmother rocked quilting and I have a number of her quilts in my home. My favourite is what I call my "Memories" quilt because the material used on it is all from clothes I had when I was younger - so cool!

I have a number of aunts who love quilting too so when I got a special request for a birthday card for one of them, I knew "Kathy Quilting Angel" from High Hopes would be perfect!

After stamping "Kathy" and colouring her with Copic markers I hand fussy cut her and left a thin white edge around her.
Next I glued her on matching card stock and cut her out again leaving a thin border. I added her to the card using pop dots and added some Star Dust Stickles to her wings.
Patterned Paper from the Twitterpated collection from Stampin' Up worked perfectly for my card. I cut out stitched squares with a die and set them aside. I laid out my stitched squares in a quilt type pattern on card stock, glued them down when I was happy with it and hand cut a thin edge around it to help them pop off the background.
Next I created a sentiment on my computer and cut it out using a stitched fish tail banner die and die cut a small heart in it just for fun. I masked off the Pirate's Birthday stamp to include a Happy Birthday sentiment and added a die cut spool of thread with a heart. Some cotton lace ribbon and enamel dots finish off my card.
